Anthum full interview of battle of the bands.

These two girls have taken the charts by storm, each with hit singles being on the top 40 list for a number of weeks, one of these divas are very close to having one of their singles being the next number one. These girls were both handpicked by record companies who saw star quality in these two. These girls state that they are not going to change into big, green, raging fame monsters!

Well hello girls, it’s great to finally have you both together. You both are doing so well with your careers. How has the year been for you both?

Natalie; I have been touring around the world, which has been very hectic. I haven’t had a lot of time to record at the moment, but I am writing new material for the next album. But besides from that I have been to a lot of places for the first time, I got to go to Australia! It was so crazy; I’ve always wanted to go to Australia. A year ago this wouldn’t have happened at all, and then I was picked to become an artist, due to someone seeing that I had potential.

Eileen; the year for me has been really busy; I have been working hard on the next album and the album itself is a personal one. I’ve had a bit of a break last year due to having toured around the world. I feel like I’ve been a little lazy to be honest. However I hope I’ve redeemed myself with the new music.

Well I think that with two songs in the charts, one nearly at number one, just shows you have already been forgiven by your fans. For you Natalie it looks as if you’re going straight towards the right direction for a very successful career. As if it’s only been a year since starting, this comes to my next question. what are you wanting to get across to the people listening to your music?

Natalie; The message I want to get across to people, is that music is important and is a good way to express yourself. With the music I release, I want the people to listen and have a connection to what the lyrics are. It’s not about the money, which in some cases artists do think that, I believe it’s all about the music and sending a positive or meaningful message out to fans or others.

Eileen; I agree with what Natalie has said, many people think in the music industry, all singers and bands are in this for the money. Which I do agree on that, many do. But we don’t, yes we do get paid for doing this, but it’s our job. We do get overly paid for this type of job but we don’t care about the number of noughts in the payslip, I want it to be about the music and having the fans understand my music.

Well that’s very good to hear, both of you seem to give a lot of care to your fans. What are your fan bases looking like? Are they supportive and what are they like? Have you met any fans?

Eileen; Sounds cliché, but I really couldn’t do it without them. They are just so supportive of my career I’ve still not come to terms with how my love of singing and performing has become my career.

Natalie; I have received support from fans and the fan base is doubling since the start. I can’t believe it as it’s just been nearly two years and

Eileen; Sounds cliché, but I really couldn’t do it without them. They are just so supportive of my career I’ve still not come to terms with how my love of singing and performing has become my career. I have fans that are so star stuck when they see me out in public. This is surreal as I still see myself as a normal day to day teen. It’s just so overwhelming.  When I was touring, so many people came to watch. Each concert was sold out every time. I was told by a member of staff, which said many had camped outside the stadium, the NIGHT before the concert.

Natalie; I have received support from fans and the fan base is doubling since the start. I can’t believe it as it’s just been nearly two years since I broke into the music business and have had this much support. However you always get those few people who will do anything to break you. I received messages from a few people saying; ‘your music style is terrible’, ‘who allowed you to be a singer’ and ‘X Factor reject’. Truth is I chose that style of music, it fits me well. For anyone who doesn’t like me, that’s fine. For those who do thank you.  Haters will hate... But I’m not changing for anyone.

Both of you say you have toured around the world. What’s it like to be able to travel around? Do you ever get home sick and miss the people close to you?

Eileen; yes I defiantly get a little home sick as I miss my family loads when I’m away. Luckily my mum is sometimes able to get to come on the tour for a little while. When she’s there though she’s always making sure I stick to my study schedule and getting an actual bedtime. A good side to being on tour is you get to visited a lot of places and while you’re there you get to learn a lot about each place, so you are learning a little of the culture.

Natalie; yes it’s exciting when on tour; there’s a lot of places I’ve been able to visit. I’ve always wanted to go to Australia. I got to go to Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast. Luckily my mum and dad come with me on tour, so I don’t get home sick as much.

How do you think next year will go for you?

Eileen; to be honest who knows what will happen. I hope that I am able to continue on as an artist. I do not want to take it all for granted.

Natalie; to continue making more music and to meet my starlets. I may in fact get another two tours in for my starlets also.

Photoshoot for music plan

Professional Photo Shoot - Planning Sheet

The music magazine that I currently have in mind is a Pop magazine

I think my house style should look Bold but fancy. So it can look great for the teen to older teen, without being dated or too young.

It should create the impression of being

What to Photograph
What techniques to use
How I achieve this
A shot of my main model which will be used as my front cover
The shot for the front cover will be a close up of the model and the lighting for this will be on the model highlighting her as the key feature of the music magazine.
Will be a medium close up to show the importance of the character.
Get an appropriate model and style the model that will suit the genre of the magazine, which is a pop with a mix of indie. The lighting should be a must in order to create the right effect for the shots. The shot for the cover will be shot in the studio for maximum effect.
A series of shots, which will be using the same prop, but with different models using the props differently each time, which is a number of pink and purple balloons.
A series of different angled shots will be taken to create effect for the magazine, my aim is to make the shoot look fun and fit the pop/indie genre.
For lighting it will be set with dimmed. Also different gestures for each mode,l So I can show the personality of each model by the shots taken.
Using a few models to achieve this. The costume must fit the genre of the magazine, being pop. The location will be set in a room which the colour will be lilac. While the pink and purple balloons will break up the colours of the background, so that the colours will pop.

Questionare Responses

Here are the results of the questionnaire that I created. Now that I have the responses, I am able to produce my college magazine based of the questions that were answered. Before creating the questions that were to be asked, I have tried to base them on the different types of psycho-graphic profiles. these include;
belonger- People who feel that they should belong in a group in order to feel apart of something. The people in these groups like to be with they're families and friends. They are also know to be loyal to the brands they use. I came up with two questions that would best pull out these people from a group.
one being; whose advice would you most likely take? the second being; when buying a magazine or news paper? the options for this was a different brand every time, the same every time. lastly most popular at the time.
achiever - For the achiever they want to not have to be categorised into a group and want to be able to be successful in the future. I have created a few questions to pick out these people. questions about what they want in life for the future and the type of car they are wanting to drive.

By doing so this helps to get a clear idea of what types of audiences will read the magazine and those who wont, while also being able to produce a magazine suitable for the audiences needs and expectations.

music magazine photo shoot evaluation

I had decided on using Pink and Purple balloons as the prop for my photo shoot. I feel the shots that were taken were good ran smoothly and linked well to the genre of magazine i'm wanting to create, which is a pop as well as a mix of indie. However I feel that in order to get the right effect for the photos, was to take into thought about the use of costume and what would fit best, as the background fits the pop genre well.Though the type of clothing the model is shown wearing in the picture, would be classed as fitting with indie instead of pop.

Picture 1

I took the shot with the model and with the set background that will be used with my inside article of my music magazine. I believe that the lighting is used well in the shot and not over used to make a glare. I believe that in order for this to be a pop magazine, the costume should have been given more thought. Another note is that even though the background fits pop, the costume is more fitted to indie. The shot of the model is a medium close up and at eye level with the model.

Pictures 2 and 3

They are both shots of the background. I have taken them to show how the background would be set, before placing the model in the shot that has been set up for the music magazine. They are both set similar yet different layout of the balloons.

Pictures 4,5,6 and 7

These are shots of the prop that was used in the photo-shoot. This is so that I can see how the balloons would be in the lighting that was set. Another reason is that I can cut these images of the balloons out easily if needed to, so that if i wanted to use the balloons for my cover, I can place some on my music magazine.

college magazine final draft and evaluation

This is my final version of my college magazine
I went with Red, yellow, white and black as my main color layout. For photography I have taken a medium close up shot of my model for my main feature article. All photography was taken outdoors so natural light was used to get the shots. The shots used for the contents page was the main feature article used again. Another shot is taken of the reconstruction of a building within prior with students around to create a scene, While the other shot is just of the building with no one around. With the contents I created a list of features which  I have based them around the responses, of what the potential audience wanted to see.

Evaluation

I feel that I am more confident with in design and how the software works. I learnt how the basic tools worked and how to arrange my text and place my images onto the pages.
I didn't use Photoshop that much as I feel as if the photography used was simple.

I created my headline, kickers and cover lines basing around college life and wanting to be able to use this to sell to the target audience. The main feature article image was used in the contents also so that the audience can navigate through the magazine.

College magazine draft and plan

College magazine planning

The magazine will roughly be about 25-30 pages. The contents that will be included will be around the responses I have collected from a questionnaire.

Potential names for the magazine;

·         Students now

·         Student views

·        S.C.U

Possible content;

·         Film/ music/book reviews

·         Discount vouchers/codes

·         Sports news

·         News about the college and updates

·         Technology reviews

·         Student employment

·         Fashion/ make up trends

·         First years help

·         Real life stories

·         Puzzles/quizzes and competition pages

·         Cooking/ student menu ideas

·         Subjects

·         Advertisements

The colour scheme I will be using is dark and light Blues, dark medium purple and lastly white. Each one will be used differently in my college magazine and will alternate throughout.

For the contents I am going to adapt more which will be used in my magazine will be discounts and vouchers, reviews, and technology reviews. This because in the audience questionnaire I created, the majority of the response’s I was given stated they wanted;

Due to the audience being all first year students I have set the main article/anchorage on the first year of college. This will grab the student’s attention as this is dedicated to them.

Shopping was also a main interest in the responses. I will put together and article about style ideas and fashion trends used by others.

People would also like to see a list of opportunities to get out and enjoy a night out with friends. A discounts page would suit this as well as offers

For shopping. This could include a page where I can create a page of useful voucher and codes to use.

Sports pages would also be in the magazine. Reason for this being, some of the audience like to be active and take part in sports events.

Puzzles quizzes and competition will also be in the magazine. These are for people who may not be interested in the shopping and fashion pages, a competition page where prizes can be won. This would be able to draw potential readers in.

Music magazine research

Music magazine research

The music genre I am focusing on is pop. I have collected a few front covers of pop magazines. They are also aimed towards different age ranges, as well as the style.

Billboard

The main audience this magazine represents is of older teenagers and adults of both genders. The magazine mainly focuses on the music and the artists that have been published with in the issue. Some other pictures are added into the magazine, this includes technology updates and articles about the electronics. The covers are presented differently each time, depending on the type of artist who is the main article feature. The magazine cover is polished, clean and smart. Was first published in 1894 and is currently edited by Danyel Smith. The types of features the magazine include; latest news, trends that have happened in the different music genres. Not only does billboard have a magazine, it also has a website that complements the magazine, while it also goes hand in hand, showing more information on the website, about key features which were in the magazine. For example the top 100, where the list of the most popular songs of the month that have been given the most response by the audience, while also having a top 200 list of albums, like the music, have created a big impact on the music industry.

Top of the pops

The main audience for this type of pop magazine is aimed at girl’s ages of 12 to 14. The colours of the magazine stand out and are a bolder approach than the magazine before.
The magazine is playful and funny which would help to connect and attract their audience, especially young teenagers. Top of the pops contains stories and pictures of pop artists, although it’s a music magazine it’s not all artist based.
The magazine has been running since 1995. The magazine also ran a television show from 1964-2006 with the same name. Features that are inside the magazine consists of celebrity gossip, question and answers, which is based around the band one direction, the band The wanted write a weekly page post about their journey in the pop industry. More included are real life stories, celebrity gossip and a page of readers embarrassing moments.
The magazine is mostly based around pop music however may feature a little from other music genres, such as rap and hip hop.

first photoshoot

Here is some of the pictures I have taken as a start to photography. I have taken 6 shots and angling the camera to create effect for the pictures.

This picture has been taken using the two thirds rule. there will be a grid with two vertical lines. I have taken this shot making sure that the trees are in line with the lines. This is so that the I have successfully taken an image using this rule.

I have taken the shot of my model from a low angle, this is to show a different level. My model is looking at the camera and the shot is taken outside using no lighting.

I have taken this shot, with my model sat on the floor facing the camera. This is taken with the camera angled at a low point .

This image is a medium close up which is slightly below eye level.

This image is angled upwards towards the model, with the model facing towards the camera.

College Magazine research

This is research I have done about different college magazines layout and content, as this will help me to help me with ideas when producing my own college magazine.

Haverford spring/summer magazine 2013

The Haverford cover shows some key points of what the magazine is trying to point out to the audience some of the features with in the magazine. The cover uses a past Haverford graduate as the main feature article and how his time at Haverford has helped him to become what he is today. The shot is a medium close up, and is looking directly towards the camera, which would be directly looking at the potential buyer.

The Haverford university magazine, first issued in 1898, is a 62 page magazine showing the wide range consisting of reviews, stories of present and past students, information about the university and the things that happens in the Haverford. The magazine also gives a background of what goes on in certain subjects; the types of subjects are

Different each time a new magazine is published. Inside the magazine shows a contents page on the first few pages. This is to also to give insight on what is to be expected inside the magazine and the articles with in it. In this particular issue, there is a double page spread of the process that happens when new students arrive for the start of their next step in their lives.

 SMU Fall 2009 magazine

The masthead of the magazine is at the top of the page in red bold text which. The t-shirt that is being worn links with the title and the colleges name. the feature image is the main focus of the magazine and the model used for the picture, is Olympic gymnast Nastia Lukin, because of her success, her views about the campus will attract the audience. The anchorage is of the college views which Lukin has given. The magazine is a free magazine for the college student ; more reason for students to look through the magazine, even if it isn't to look at it in great detail. The SMU magazines contents includes; interviews, reviews, sport updates, class notes and news pages.
SMU is a 32 page magazine, with news that highlights what has happened over the weeks since the last issue, followed by the contents page. pages also included in the magazine is advertisements for upcoming SMU events and vouchers and discounts on products; by having these discounts and vouchers, it will promote the magazine more to other students.

Photographic deconstruction

The photograph that has been shot is an image of Selena Gomez, who is known for acting and singing, she is from the pop genre of music. The shot has been taken with the background out of focus where as Selena is in focus; this is to show that she is the main feature of the photograph. The shot is close up of Selena Gomez; Her body is angled away from the camera, while her face is turned towards the camera. Lighting has been used which is directly lit on her face, this is trying to create light in the picture as the picture background is quite dark. The lighting seems to be natural and is trying to create some light in the photo to brighten up the picture that has been taken. The setting even though it its blurred is natural woodland and objects which are oriental styled. The make up which is face is minimal except for her eyes. Her eyes are the main feature which is drawing the audience in, due to the make up used which highlights the main feature of her face, yet its still being simple and natural. This suggests that she is a natural beauty, which is shown in this simple shot. However, even though she is being shown to be natural and innocent, her mouth is slightly parted seductively, giving the illusion of hidden depths.
